Footfill

Privacy

Last updated 4 November 2026

Your location stays on your phone. Footfill turns it into the streets you walked, and only those are kept: never where or when you walked.

An account is optional. No ads, no analytics, no tracking, and nothing is ever sold.

Who is responsible

Footfill is made by Andrea Nappi, an independent developer in Italy, who is responsible for your data under the EU's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Write to hello@footfill.com about anything on this page.

What stays on your phone

Footfill uses your location only while you record a walk, when you ask for places near you, and when you plan a walk from where you are. While you record, your positions are matched to the streets you walk, on the phone, and then discarded. What the phone keeps is the streets you walked, your cities with their maps, and the walks you saved. If you don't make an account, none of it leaves the phone.

Your account, if you make one

Signing in keeps your progress safe and brings it to your other phones. Your account holds:

It never holds where or when you walked. Accounts are kept by Supabase, our account service, on servers in Frankfurt, Germany. We use them only to give you the service you signed up for.

If you sign in with Google or Apple, they tell us your name and email address. Apple may give us a private relay address instead of your own, if you choose to hide it. If you sign in with an email code, the code is sent from hello@footfill.com through our email provider, Resend, from its servers in Ireland.

What leaves the phone, and to whom

To find places, download a city and draw the map, Footfill talks to these services. Each one sees your IP address, as any website does.

ServiceWhat it receives, and when
Photon (Komoot, Germany)What you type when you search for a city or an address. To list places near you, your position rounded to about 1 km.
Nominatim (OpenStreetMap Foundation)Searches, when Photon can't be reached, and the outline of a city you add.
Overpass (overpass-api.de, Germany; VK Maps, Russia; overpass.private.coffee)Which city's streets to download, when you add or sync a city. One server is asked at a time; the others only when it is busy.
OpenFreeMapThe map pieces for the area on your screen.
Supabase (Germany)Your account, as described above, only if you sign in.
Google and AppleYour sign-in, only if you choose to continue with them.
Expo (United States)A check for app updates when Footfill starts: the app's version, your phone's platform and a random number for this installation, not linked to your account.

The App Store, TestFlight and Google Play, where you get Footfill, have their own privacy policies.

What we don't do

How long we keep it

Your account and everything in it stay until you delete them. Deleting your account removes it from our account service at once; copies in its backups, if any, disappear within 7 days. How to delete your account.

Your rights

You can ask to see the data we hold about you, to correct it, to receive a copy, to delete it, and to object to how we use it. Write to hello@footfill.com from the address you sign in with; we answer within 30 days. You can also complain to the Italian data protection authority, the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali, or to the authority where you live.

Children

Footfill is not meant for children under 14, and we don't knowingly keep an account for one. If you think a child has made an account, write to us and we will delete it.

Changes

If this policy changes, this page changes with it, with a new date at the top. If a change affects what we keep or who sees it, the app will tell you before it applies.
